David was such an inspiration to me and several of us in the Headstrong support group at Victory in the Valley. He loved telling his story and gave encouragement to us to live for the moment and to keep on moving forward. He certainly lived it daily. He was so excited to have bought a camper and outfitted his Accord to pull it to travel the country He was living his dream when the tragic fall occurred. He told me a couple times that when he was diagnosed with a GBM , He asked the Lord for 7 more years. Remarkably this was his 7th year. Praise God for using David to touch so many lives. I will miss him dearly.
I had the cherished honor of serving as David’s dissertation chair. He was brilliant and creative, and I learned so much from him. I will miss him, but his memory will continue to lighten my days and be a blessing. My sincere condolences to all of his family.
I was a student of Dr. Groot’s in 2014 at the University of Utah – College of Social Work. While I can’t remember all of the moments that made me love him as a professor, I can very viscerally remember the love and fondness I have for him and how he taught us. His style of teaching made us think, not with only our brains, but with our hearts. He was a great example of the type of person our world needs more of and I feel lucky to have been taught by someone who emanated love in all that he did. He will truly be missed.
