Mary June Smith

Earl S. Smith, born January 31, 1931 in Shattuck, OK (in the heart of the dust bowl) died November 16, 2022 at age 91. Earl was the son of Earl and Marie Smith. He graduated from the Granby, MO High School in 1949. Earl worked at Boeing when he first came to Wichita and then served for many years as an MFA/Shelter Insurance Agent. He also owned and operated the Wichita Marine. Earl also bought and sold cars and motorcycles for many years. Earl was married to Mary June Young on June 2, 1949 and they were married for over 72 years.Mary June Young was born June 18, 1933 in Neosho, MO and died November 5, 2022 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Lewis and Ocal Young. She graduated from the Neosho, MO High School. Mary June worked at Boeing for a time and then worked along with Earl in their insurance and boat businesses.In earlier years, Earl and Mary June enjoyed riding their Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. Following retirement in 1996, they enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending winters in south Texas. They were very involved in shuffleboard tournaments in the RV Park. In 1985 Earl earned his pilot’s wings and enjoyed several years of flying. He used his flying for his car business, traveling to Oklahoma City to the car auctions.Earl and Mary June are survived by their two daughters, Linda (Mike) Stovall and Deb (Tal) Tittsworth; four grandchildren, Nate Stovall, Katrina Tittsworth, Ryan (Janelle) Tittsworth, and Jessica (Adam) Koch; and nine great-grandchildren.Private family services will be held in Missouri.In honor of their great-granddaughter, Molly, memorials have been established with: Children's Mercy - Kansas City, 2401 Gillham Rd., Kansas City, MO 64108; Ronald McDonald House, 2502 Cherry St., Kansas City, MO 64108.Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
