Joyce "Judy" Evelyn Chilton

September 1, 1926 ~ March 15, 2023
Joyce "Judy" Evelyn Chilton, 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and very dear friend and neighbor of many, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. There is no doubt she was met at the gates of Heaven by the outstretched arms of her husband of 73 years, Stan Chilton, who preceded her in death in 2018. Judy was born in 1926 in Elmdale, Kansas. Her dad worked for the Santa Fe Railroad which resulted in her moving frequently to seven different towns and attending seven different schools in Kansas by the time she was 16. She moved to Wichita at 17 to work and finished her schooling at Wichita High School, now known as Wichita High School East. In the late summer of 1943, she met her future husband, Stan Chilton, who lived next door, and who was being drafted into service that fall. They were married March 16, 1945 after Stan combined a 2-day pass with a 3-day pass and drove from Ft. Benning, Georgia to Wichita to marry the love of his life. She was instrumental in all of her and Stan’s businesses, Music Service, Chilton Vending, then Chilton Billiards, and more than a few commercial and residential real estate projects along the way. She was an avid supporter of Stan’s life-long model airplane building obsession, driving with him to events all over the U.S. for decades and watching him set national and world records time after time. Later in life in the winters you could find them in Marco Island hosting many friends over the years. They were active members of Epworth United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Through it all she was at home for her three children, her granddaughter, and great-grandchildren. She was present at every event through the years for everyone. Her legacy will be as an astonishing selfless giver of her love, time, energy, and support, to everyone in her life. It wasn’t an effort, it was at her core to help others, and she did this relentlessly her entire life. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, Wichita, KS. Additionally, the service will be live streamed and available to view by clicking "Watch Event" below for those unable to attend.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Stan Chilton; parents, Howard and Ruth Brammell; brothers, Howard, Donald, and Ronald Brammell; and daughter, Linda King.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary Chilton (Michelle) of Edmond, OK, Randy Chilton (Deanna) of Westminster, CO; grandchildren, Jennifer Yarnold, Ben, Kate, and Olivia Chilton; son-in-law, Dennis King; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Brown (Chris); great-grandson, William Yarnold, many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Marie Brammell-Capstick and JoAnn Brammell.
Godspeed Joyce, aka “Judy”. A long life well lived, and a kind, caring and loving soul that will be dearly missed, and lovingly remembered. Now eternally reunited with her loving husband Stan, parents, siblings, daughter Linda, and other family, friends and loved ones gone before.
My sympathies to “Judy’s” family, friends and loved ones.
I’m sorry that we were unable to attend the service. Thank you for posting the service here. As an employee of Chilton Vending & Billiards, Mrs. C was always friendly and gracious to all that worked for Stan & Randy. I have never forgot the cherry chocolate cake that she would bring to the office occasionally. It was just delicious! My sincere sympathies to the Chilton Family.
