Ronald W. Cox

Ronald Wayne Cox was born in Lyons, KS on March 16th, 1938 to Raymond Cox and Neva Fenwick(Cox). Ronald passed away on June 3rd, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor of Arkansas City, KS. due to complications following a myocardial infarction that occurred on May 2nd, 2023. Ronald was presented with scouting’s top award, the Eagle badge, earning him top rank as an Eagle Scout. Ron graduated from Lyons High School in 1956 and then attended Sterling College where he obtained his teaching certificate. Ron served in the Air National Guard from 1961-1967, with honorable discharge. He continued his education for his master’s in teaching at Emporia State College where he met his future wife, Shirley. They married June 17th, 1972 and both taught together at the Larned State hospital. Ron taught special education also in Great Bend, KS and spent 40 years teaching at the Wichita Juvenile detention center. While there he taught all levels of history and math. He was a beloved teacher to many. Ron enjoyed being a part of the VFW and Lions club. His daughter, Jennifer Rose was born in 1977 and his son, Christopher George was born in 1981. Ron was a wonderful father who was devoted to his wife and children and was always going above and beyond to make sure they all knew how much he cared for his family. He was a hunter, fisherman, and never missed playing the lottery every Tuesday and Friday. Although he never won the lottery, his family did and he is dearly missed.
Ron dearly loved his five grandchildren: Alexandria, Braden, Jakob, Noah, and Karson; as well as his great grandchildren, Sophia and Enzo.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Rose Cox; brothers, Larry Cox, Don Cox, Gail Cox; parents, Raymond Cox and Neva Fenwick(Cox); sister-in-law, Judy Cox. Survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Keith) Parr of Arkansas City, KS; son, Christopher Cox of Wichita; brother, Henry Cox; sister, Raelene (Larry) Wedel, both of Hutchinson, KS along with several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Alexandria (Manuel) Raga, Braden Snider, Jakob, Noah, and Karson Parr; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Enzo Raga.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Funeral Service will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
