James "Jim" Lapine

James "Jim" Lapine, 87, retired United States Air Force Pilot and Cessna Demonstrator Pilot, died Sunday, June 11, 2023. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, June 19, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Preceded in death by his parents, James I. and Claire Lapine and his three older brothers. Survived by his wife of 61 years, their four children, sixteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with: The Lord's Diner, 520 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.
Whenever I would go visit grandad he would always go to the gas station every morning and grab a drink. When he’d come back to the car I’d say, “Grandad is that coffee you just bought?”
And with a big grin while holding back a laugh, he’d reply, “Nope! It’s Columbian bean squeeze.”
It wasn’t until many years later I figured out what “Columbian bean squeeze” really meant.
And my parents never let me get Columbian bean squeeze from the gas station. 😉
I have many good memories of Jim. He was an excellent pilot and a great person.
