Carl M. Fox

April 1, 1938 ~ July 2, 2023
Carl M. Fox, 85, beloved father and grandfather, died Sunday, July 2, 2023, following a brief illness. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Maynard and Lelia Elva Fox; his wife, Clee A. Fox; and his sister, Kathy (Connie) Pascale. He is survived by his brother, Larry K. Fox of Phoenix, AZ; his daughters, Parvin (Mark) Belknap of Aliquippa, PA, Shirine Mohagheghpour of New Orleans, LA; sons, Curtis M. Fox of Fort Smith, AR, Todd H. (Cyrille) Fox of Tinley Park, IL; grandchildren, Sophie and Lex Gavin, Erin Bell and Wiley Belknap; and four great grandchildren. Born in Bison, Kansas in 1938, Carl became interested in electronics at an early age, and his work as a computer engineer led to extensive worldwide travel. On one such overseas assignment he met the love of his life, Clee, and for the next 40 years they traveled and lived all over the world.
Carl was a family man. He was proud of his children and their accomplishments. He loved babies and was the consummate “Grandpa” helping his grandkids with science projects, putting on shadow plays, and showing off the Tesla coil he built. He documented their first words, piano recitals, sporting events, and much to their horror, their endless temper tantrums. He loved them beyond measure.
Upon his retirement, he and Clee moved to Wichita in 2010, where he lovingly cared for her in the remaining years of her life. Always one to fix things, he spent his remaining years working on antique radios and through this work he made a great many new friends. Like all of us, they appreciated his easy smile, upbeat personality, and patient, easy going manner. It is with great sadness that we announce his passing on July 2, 2023. Carl was loved and will be profoundly missed. We will honor Carl at a memorial service on Saturday, July 29 at 4 pm at Downing & Lahey Mortuary-West Chapel.
Shirine and family, we will miss our dear neighbor and friend but are gladdened he is reunited with Clee and Poncho. We loved Carl’s smile and upbeat attitude and the lights and music he provided for all of us at the holidays. Blessings to you all.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but this gentleman was one of the good ones. Carl welcomed us into his home, taught John a long lost art of repairing old tube radios. More than that, he was such a good friend to us and our family. He joined us for many holidays and blended right in as if he had known us all of our lives. RIP sweet friend. We will truly miss your kindness, stories and great sense of humor. 💔
I met Carl in 4th grade in Brookings SD. As pre-teens and teens we both shared intense interest in most things electronic – old radios, high voltage generators, ham radio, etc. Although after our freshman year of college we’ve never lived close, but we have always kept in touch and I have always considered Carl about my most special friend! Carl could fix anything he wanted to fix and enjoy having done it in spite of sometimes very frustrating things in the process. He had a career dealing with large, state of the art computers, often in foreign countries and high security facilities. I have always had the utmost respect for him. I will miss him greatly. In retirement he returned to fixing old radios similar to the old radios we advertised for in our local newspaper as kids, to take apart for the parts to build other things.
Condolences to Carl’s family. (Both photos below of Carl in his eighties.)

I was very saddened to learn of Carl’s passing and I do offer my condolences to his family in this time of loss. I got to know Carl through his helping me with a couple of IBM clocks. He was a master in electronics and nothing could stump him. We shared many a story on the Middle East during my visits to his house. I will miss him very much.

Carl was such a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed in the neighborhood! He helped both of our sons, Mitchell and Sammy earn money by mowing for him during their High School years. The Dresie Family (Charlie, Megan, Mitchell & Sammy) is sending love and prayers to Carl’s family during this difficult time.
Carl and my father have been friends since childhood. Over a decade ago, Carl invited me to stay at The Fox Hotel on my cross-country travels. Over time, we developed a friendship and I felt honored to know Carl as a truly good and interesting human being. I always looked forward to the next time I’d see him. I imagine Clee, Pancho, and his mother threw quite a party for his arrival on the other side. Wishing Carl’s family pockets of peace in this time of great loss for them.
Mansour and Kamyar join Carl’s memorial service from Sacramento, California. We have many fond memories with Carl, Clee, and family in Iran, Virginia, California, and Kansas. We give everyone at the memorial service a Big Hug.
