Alan Pickett

Alan Pickett, 78, died October 6, 2023, at his residence at Chisholm Place in Wichita, KS. He was born January 28, 1945, in Colby, KS, to Floyd and Laverne (Macho) Pickett. Alan grew up on the family farm South of Goodland. During his younger years, he attended a one-room, one-teacher country school house from 1st to 4th grade. Alan attended 5th grade at Edson, KS, and then Goodland schools through high school graduation. During that time, he was very active in 4-H. Alan attended Northwest Kansas area vocational school, where he received a degree in drafting. He then worked for an architectural firm in Denver, CO, before returning home to Goodland to farm with his father. He served on the Goodland CO-OP board for several years and was a member of the Goodland Elks Club. Alan was also entrepreneurial, operating a terracing business in the '90s and a residential and commercial exterior painting business in the '00s. Survivors include his three children, all residing in Wichita, KS: Lisa Elliott (Jim), Jenny McCaig (John), and Michael Pickett (Amy); five grandchildren; sister-in-law Eunice Pickett of Centennial, CO, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Laverne, and his brother, Herschel.
