Carol L. Mires-McGreevy, 62, aircraft manufacturing machinist, died Monday, May 6, 2024. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, May 17, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Preceded in death by her father, Ben J. Mires; brothers, Michael Mires, Ralph Mires. Survived by her mother, Darlene Mires; wife, Susan Mires-McGreevy; son, Michael (Sarah) Eckerman; sisters, Patty Booth, Mitzie Mires; grandchildren, Jayden Eckerman, Kowyn Eckerman, Elliana Eckerman, and Estella Eckerman.
Carol was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Northwest High School in 1979. Shortly after, she enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years. Shortly upon returning home, she built her life around her son, grandkids, and extended friends. She met her life partner, Susan, in 2011 and married in 2014. Carol loved traveling with her wife and beloved dogs. Her favorite place to be was at their family’s cabin near Pikes Peak in Colorado. The mountains brought her so much peace and joy. Her favorite time of the year to visit was in the fall for the various fall festival activities. She loved her fur babies to the core and absolutely adored anything to do with frogs.
No matter what life threw Carol's way, she always took it with a smile on her face and a positive outlook that everything was going to be ok. Her memory will never be forgotten by the countless lives she touched with her personality and kindness. She will be sorely missed by her wife, son, grandchildren, friends, and family.

Carol was so kind, generous, loving, helpful, and supportive. When I was in my early twenties and had moved to Wichita from Texas, Carol helped me find an apartment to rent, gave me spare furniture and a stereo she had stored in her attic along with an old pickup truck so I could get to and from school and work. I would go to her house from time to time on a Sunday, and she would be making chocolate chips cookies and watching the Dallas Cowboys on tv. She was so sweet, fun and wonderful. I am amazed at the hardships she endured with grace and love. She was an amazing person, and I feel so lucky to have known her. I am sending love and my deepest condolences. She will be sorely missed and will always be in my heart. I’m choosing to light a green candle here in honor of her love for everything frogs. Love you Carol.
I have a lot of great memories of Carol when we were little and spent time together at our Grandma’s house.
Another memory was before cell phones, she tracked me down at the zoo when we were visiting from Texas. Don’t remember what the “emergency” was, but there was Carol, riding “shotgun” in the golf cart heading toward me and my family to give us a message.
