Zachary "Zac" Vaughn Viramontez

February 28, 2001 ~ June 9, 2024
Zachary Vaughn Viramontez, known affectionately as Zac to all who knew him, left this world far too soon on June 9, 2024, at the age of 23. Born on February 28, 2001, in Wichita, Kansas, Zac was a beacon of light and laughter to his family and friends. His untimely passing occurred at Lake Afton, where he bravely and selflessly gave his life while attempting to save a stranger from drowning.Zac was a cherished son, born to Tina Viramontez and Joseph “Vaughn” Viramontez, and was a beloved stepson to Sheridan Hoopengarner and Melissa Viramontez. His carefree spirit and kind-hearted nature were evident from a young age. With a smile that could brighten any room, Zac's, sometimes insanely goofy, sense of humor left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of experiencing it. His infectious laughter can and will never be forgotten. An artist at heart, Zac would escape from the world by drawing, writing poetry or music lyrics. He had an eclectic taste for music ranging from Bing Crosby to the Electric Light Orchestra to Bo Burnham, to name just a few. His playlist would have you wondering who took over your car stereo. Zac's presence was a gift to the world, and his absence will be deeply felt by those who loved him. His legacy, however, will continue to live on through the memories he created and the many lives he touched. The courage and altruism he displayed in his final moments are a testament to the loving individual he was. He will forever be remembered as a son, a friend, and a hero. Zac's spirit, his love for life, and his unwavering desire to make others laugh will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Please join us in honoring the memory of Zac, whose journey, though brief, was one of kindness, creativity, laughter, and bravery. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 21, 2024, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
May Zac’s vibrant spirit and infection laughter become a beacon of joy for all who knew him.

Zac was an amazing person to talk to, without him, I wouldn’t be so dedicated to getting my life together. I love him as a brother, please wait for me, we will be able to talk about dumb things one more time and play one last game. RIP YUM
I remember him being sweet. I played games with him occasionally, but I appreciated how he loved to get to know people he just met, including me. Even when my encounter with him was brief, he was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. That says a lot about his character and personality when it shines just through the computer and through voice chat, what more if I actually met him in real life? Rest in peace, friend. You are truly remarkable.
