Lori Lowery, 58, of Houston, Texas entered eternal joy with her heavenly father Sunday evening June 9, 2024 surrounded by family. Lori was born August 16, 1965 in Wichita, Kansas. Lori was, most memorably, a people person. She spent summers at her grandparents’ farms with cousins, aunts, uncles and cows, tractors and horses. She loved skating, riding her bike and was active in her Girl Scout troop participating in many camping adventures in the wild. She graduated from Wichita Northwest High School lettering on the tennis team. All these experiences from youth would later serve her well when she became a mom to two rough and tumble boys. Lori was a proud KU Jayhawk. She majored in chemical engineering while also serving as a dorm Resident Assistant. She famously planned creative activities and mentored younger students helping them adjust to college life. Lori spoke fluent Spanish and won a competitive internship in Guadalajara, Mexico. On the flight to Mexico, Lori wouldn’t leave the guy sitting next to her alone. He was on his way to the same internship program as Lori. Todd was reading See it and Say it in Spanish desperate to improve the Spanish vocabulary he learned at Taco Bell. Lori thought somebody had to save this man and thus began Todd and Lori’s matrimonial journey. After graduating from KU, Lori continued her education becoming an OU Sooner. Lori was extremely popular because she converted her research lab into a bakery making cookies for fellow students and professors. She graduated with her Masters in Chemical Engineering Magna Cum Laude. She and Todd married and moved to Texas where she began her 35-year career with Shell Oil Company. Lori had the rare ability to excel in not only technical matters but was a great business and people person, too. Throughout her career Lori worked in refining, R&D and chemicals in locations around the world. Lori was also a devoted wife, friend, and mother. She volunteered with all her sons’ sports teams and scout troops and was always up for going to an amusement park. She became an avid scrapbooker preserving many family mementos. Lori loved supporting her friends and family on any occasion or need with gifts and treats. There was hardly a weekend that went by that Lori didn’t find a reason to gift someone with her presence. Lori loved going to garage sales and estate sales. She was gifted at finding treasures. Much of the furniture in her home was purchased at a bargain price. Lori has a relationship with her heavenly father and shared it by teaching 6th grade girls Sunday School. She developed special relationships and the counsel she provided was always wise and loving. Lori is survived by her husband, Todd Lowery; her sons, Ryan (Andrea Ortiz) of Houston and Eric of Deridder, Louisianna; her sister, Lesa Schwartz (Hank); parents, Les and Kay Hole all of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Stephanie Savill (Jay) of Edmond, OK; nieces and nephews, Jenny, Becky, Nick, Nathan, Ben, Brooke; and many great-nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Private Family Graveside Service at Resurrection Cemetery. In the coming weeks a memorial service will also be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lori’s memory to either Aldersgate UMC Caregivers, 7901 W 21st N., Wichita, KS 67205 or the Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS). LYS is a one-week leadership camp for high school students that Lori supported for many years.
