James "Jim" Robert Mullen, 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Jim was born May 15, 1943, in Melrose Park, Illinois to Helen Margaret (nee McGrath) and William Francis Mullen, Sr. Jim loved God, his family and Notre Dame football with great passion. He had a beautiful voice, developed singing in his father’s choir as a young man. He loved summers spent with his brother working on his uncle’s farm in Hanson, MA. He graduated with a BA from the University of Rochester in 1966 and spent his career in Human Resources Management. He married Judy, the love of his life, in 1969 and they remained married for 51 years. We take great comfort knowing they are together again. Jim was a fighter who never complained, rather persevered with great Irish stubbornness. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Mullen; wife, Judy Mullen; brother, William F. Mullen, Jr; and brother-in-law, Robert Cohoon. Jim is survived by his children, Coleen (Robin) Jennison of Wichita, KS, Brian (Sarah) Mullen of Grayslake, IL, and Daniel Patrick (Sarah) Mullen of Worthington, OH; grandchildren, Abby, Sean, Kate, Dean, and Bo; sister, Elizabeth Cohoon; sisters-in-law, Jan (Robert) Joyce; Jeri (Tim) McKee; and his many nieces and nephews. Burial Committal will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 5, 2024, in the Calvary Section of Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 911 North Ave., Naperville, IL. The family suggests that memorials be made to the charity of a person’s choosing in Jim’s name. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

Guestbook

  1. I don’t know where to start. A GREAT FRIEND for near to 60 years. Someone I could count on to make me smile and laugh. He was a GREAT husband, father and grandfather; one of the leaders of his GREAT Family. Enjoyed the weddings of his three children and the many, many gatherings throughout the years. Could keep going, but I/We want to say we will miss him very much. His and Judy’s memories will always be there. Thank you Coleen, Brian and Dan for sharing your parents with me/us. THEY REMAIN VERY SPECIAL.
