Katherine (“Kathy”) L. Smith, 64, died on Thursday, October 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with bulbar-onset ALS. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Life.Church, 3210 N. Maize Rd., Wichita, KS 67205.
Kathy was a remarkable woman who lived life with endless energy and a heart full of love. She was never one to sit still, always filling her days with projects, gardening, shopping trips, and, most of all, time spent with her family. Her dedication to her children, grandchildren, and friends was unmatched, and she showed her love through every thoughtful gesture and act of kindness, especially in her last days. Kathy was a hair stylist. She lived life to the fullest and always made everything so fun. She never stopped dancing and making her loved ones laugh.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald E. and Betty J. Keith (Atkinson) and brother, Greg A. Keith. She is survived by her husband, Mark E. Smith; daughter, Ashley L. Wiechman; son, Austin T. Wiechman (Aubrey); daughter, Ayrin L. Wiechman; sister, Cindy S. Doles; step-daughters, Lindsey M. Goodwin (Ryan) and Jenny C. Smith; grandchildren, Hurley P. Pinegar; Reese E. Pinegar; Bennett J. Roush; McCoy T. Wiechman; Remi N. Wiechman, Dax G. Wiechman; Easton L. Goodwin; Harper M. Goodwin; and Noah E. Jacobs; and nieces, Hannah M. and Claire R. Doles.
Kathy’s warmth, resilience, and boundless love will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Kathy, I have so very many memories of times spent with you over the years. We have laughed and cried together on so many occasions. You had some tough years to get through but you never let anything keep you down. Your zest for life was an inspiration for anyone who knew you. I’ll hold you in my heart forever. Kathy was one of the very first ladies I met when I moved to Wichita. We had countless hours of fun at the pool in reflection Ridge. There was never a dull moment when you were around her. She was a n I perpetration to so many people. Always loved how she would decorate her home.
