Sara Beth Good

Sara Beth Good was born March 24, 1979, to William & Marjorie (Schneider) Good in Wichita, KS. She was the eldest of two daughters, joined by her sister Melissa in 1981. She received her grade school education at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and attended high school at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, graduating in 1997. After high school, Sara completed a few college courses while working at Blockbuster Video. She eventually became the store manager and built lasting relationships with her customers and her employees, often recalling it as a job that was more fun than work. Sara possessed a natural ability to create beautiful things, which led her to her next pursuit as a floral designer. After completing a floral design course, she began working at Valley Floral, a wholesale florist in Valley Center. She then landed her dream job at her favorite flower shop, Brown’s Botanicals. Her passion and talent for decorating Christmas trees was born during preparation for their holiday open houses, when the shop was transformed into a wonderland full of themed trees that were works of art. She combined her love for floral design and decorating when she became the manager of the Via Christi St. Francis Flower and Gift Shop. She created a place that patients, visitors, and staff loved to frequent, where they could escape for a few minutes of healing from stress, illness, and fatigue. Many still recall her warm smile and easy-going conversation whenever they dropped in to buy a gift or a favorite treat to enjoy during their shift. Sara’s final job in medical records at El Dorado Correctional Facility was a surprise to her family and friends, who wondered at her working in a place that housed some of the most notorious criminals in Kansas. But she flourished there, where she was known as ‘Good’ and the ‘Cookie Monster’ after sharing homemade baked treats with her co-workers. Her work family at EDCF was a source of great happiness in her life. She loved to take care of them and often received just as much as she gave, building lifelong friendships that sustained her through difficult times. Sara’s passions in life included spoiling her fur babies Lucy, Winnie, and Nugget, all rescues who ended up rescuing her. She shared a special and rare relationship with her mom and sister, who were her best friends and constant companions. One of her greatest joys was being Aunt Pooh to her Bubba, Thad. She loved gardening, antiquing, decorating, crafting, baking, traveling, attending live concerts, throwing spectacular parties and events, and spending time with her family and friends. She absolutely lived to take care of those she loved. She had an uncanny ability to remember favorite things, often turning up with just the right little gift to make someone’s day. On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Sara passed away in her sleep at home. She was preceded in death by her father William. She is survived by her mother Marjorie; sister Melissa Whiteside and brother-in-law Joshua Whiteside; nephews Noah Whiteside and Thaddeus Grier; niece Julianne Whiteside; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. She left the world a brighter place and was loved and treasured by all who were blessed to know her. A visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Rosary will be at 9:30 am, with Funeral Mass at 10:00 am both on Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
