Emil Raymond Scherlacker was born at Camp Atterberry, Indiana on July 1, 1943 to Emil and Dorothy Scherlacker. He passed away in Wichita, Kansas, on June 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, service, and quiet strength. In February 1965, Emil was united in marriage with Saundra Kay Manning. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family as well as a partnership that spanned decades. Earlier this year, they joyfully celebrated 60 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring commitment and shared devotion. Emil proudly served in the Kansas National Guard for 23 years, retiring as a First Sergeant in 1994, a reflection of his dedication to duty and country. He spent his professional life in banking, earning a reputation for integrity, steady leadership, and unwavering professionalism. Outside of work, Emil found joy in spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, and pursuing sports. He was an avid hunter, a skilled silhouette shooter, and relished many relaxing days on the golf course. He concluded his career at Kansas State Bank in Manhattan, Kansas, where he worked until his retirement in 2010. Above all, Emil was devoted to his family, finding his greatest joy and purpose in the life they built together. Emil was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Sheaffer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Saundra; his daughter, Christy Skelton (Greg) of Wichita; his granddaughters, Emily Brungardt (Connor) and Grace Skelton, both of Wichita; his sisters-in-law, Cynthia Manning of Edmond, OK, and Linda Sheaffer of La Quinta, CA. Emil will be remembered for his calm strength, generous spirit, and the steady support he offered to those around him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Wichita Junior Golf Foundation, c/o Debbie Slater, 512 N. Turnberry Cir., Wichita, KS 67230, or to a charity of your choice. Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
