Among the five kids in our family, Rita and I were the closest. We played together, shared books and always stuck up for each other. One of our favorites things to do was to sit on the couch with an open Sears catalog on our laps and brag about what we owned on our side of the catalog page.
We’ve kept in touch on the phone and in recent years, we would compare our aches and pains associated with our advancing years. I spoke with Rita two days before she died.
I’ll always remember the sound of her voice.
