Steve Walker, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the hospital after a courageous battle with heart failure.
Steve was born on September 29, 1955, in Landstuhl, Germany, while his parents were stationed there with the U.S. Army. As a military child, he lived in various places throughout his youth, eventually settling in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in recreational science from Missouri Western State University.
During his college years, Steve discovered a passion for bodybuilding, which became a lifelong pursuit. While still a student, he opened his first gym in St. Joseph, Missouri-a venture that quickly grew with the success of a second location. After graduation, Steve continued his fitness career in California, where he competed in bodybuilding competitions and inspired many with his dedication and discipline.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, David Harley Walker Sr. and Marion Lucille Walker.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Downing & Lahey Mortuary – West Chapel, on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 am, followed by a private family burial.
