Colleen Montag, Medical Technologist, passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 90, in Wichita, Kansas.
Born on October 1, 1934, in Canton, Oklahoma, Colleen’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her boundless capacity for love. She was raised on a farm just outside of town, near the historic site of Fountain, a community founded by her grandfather. A proud graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1952, she later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she built a full and meaningful life. In 1975, she earned her degree from Wichita State University, a testament to her perseverance and determination in returning to school later in life.
Colleen married Loyd Roach on June 30, 1956, and together they raised two sons, Gerald and Duane, until Loyd’s passing in 1984. She devoted herself to her career as a medical technologist, working faithfully from 1975 until her retirement in 1998. In 1986, she found love again and married Jack Montag, who remained her companion until his passing in 2006.
A gifted musician, Colleen loved playing the piano and singing at church. She was known for her delicious home-canned vegetables, expert quilting, and sewing talents. Sunday dinners—always at 1:00—were a cherished tradition. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth, strength, and sense of humor touched everyone she met. Daily walks were a non-negotiable part of her routine, reflecting her commitment to health and independence.
In her final days, Colleen was lovingly surrounded by family. True to her deep faith, she gently asked those closest to her if they knew God and if they were saved—reflecting her lifelong concern for the well-being of others, both in this life and the next. She will be remembered for her kindness, beauty, and joyful spirit.
