S. Nyles Davis was born February 16, 1951, in Dodge City, Kansas. He died on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at home with his wife, Mary and sons, Sam and Christopher, and his loyal dog, Murphy, by his side.
Nyles was described by his family as kind and gentle, humble and wise, caring and warm. He was also funny, sharp, and enjoyed a healthy debate. He was ever curious and always learning. His intellectual pursuits were many and varied, ranging from music, poetry, and philosophy to camping, hiking, gardening, and cooking. He enjoyed all sports but had a soft spot for the most beautiful game. He coached and mentored youth soccer, instilling a love of the game in many young people including his own boys. Nyles researched history and genealogy all his life and had a special interest in the American West. Most of all he loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Mary, and was incredibly proud to be a father to his two wonderful sons.
He leaves his family, Mary, his spouse of 45 years; two sons and their loved ones, Sam Davis and Rena Detrixhe, and Christopher and Tess Davis. He also leaves one sister, Dalene MacWilliams; nephew, Leo; niece, Alyson; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Lydia Davis.
Nyles graduated from Dodge City High School, Kansas State University and the University of Kansas Law School. Nyles primarily practiced poverty law during his lifetime with moderate success (his own words).

Charities
The family greatly appreciates donations made to these charities in S. Nyles Davis 's name.
I’ll always remember Nyles for his kindness and humor. I got into some unfortunate trouble my sophomore year of high school with Sam and Nyles offered himself up to help me and be by my side when I needed it. He will always be a big part of one of the weirdest stories I tell my friends and family and for that I cannot thank him and his family enough. Nyles and Mary did a great job in raising their 2 boys. Rest easy and my thoughts are with his family.
What a giving guy.
