Viola Lamae (Hoage) Fugarino, 78, of Andover, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025.
Born June 2, 1947, in Fairfield, IA, she was the second of five daughters born to Eugene Hoage and Helen (Fields) Hoage.
Vi, as most of her friends and family called her, graduated from Fairfield High in 1965, and met Joseph Anthony Fugarino, who was attending the local college. Joe and Vi were married in 1966 and had three sons from this union. Joseph’s job relocated them to multiple cities in Iowa before eventually moving the family to Valley Center, KS in 1986. Joe and Vi divorced in 1992, and Vi moved back to Iowa to be closer to her ailing parents. In 2009 Vi returned to Kansas to be closer to her children.
Vi was a devoted mother and was very proud of raising her three sons. She spent most of her time as a homemaker and enjoyed cooking shows and feeding her family. She especially loved to shop and pick out little gifts that you didn’t know you needed, until you tried it.
Viola will be remembered for her passionate spirit, strength of character, and love of family.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Helen (Fields) Hoage, sister Violet “Vicki” Mallinger, brothers-in-law Victor Mallinger and Vernon Manley, nephew Daniel Cline, and grandson Matthew Garrett Fugarino.
She is survived by her children, Christopher “Scott” Fugarino and Julie Eckhart, and Joseph Fugarino of Wichita, and James (Sheila) Fugarino of Clearwater, KS; her grandchildren, Olivia (Tim) Comfort of Westphalia, KS, Alexander Fugarino, Brennen (Aubrey) Fugarino, and Bryson Fugarino of Wichita, Tyler Fugarino and Nathan Fugarino of Clearwater, KS; and her siblings, Evelyn “Max” Manley, Valeta LaFon “Fonnie” and Ivan Cline, Jr, and Victoria Louise “Weaz” and William Cline, all of Fairfield, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held on Sunday, August 31st, prior to cremation, with a graveside service to be held in the future.
