Hong Diem Hoang, 97, died Sunday, September 21, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Hue, in Central Viet Nam. After her marriage, she moved to different cities, ranging from Da Lat, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Saigon, due to her husband’s service in the Air Force. She lost her husband in 1974 when his airplane was shot down by the communists. She worked to take care of her children, and had a hard life after Viet Nam was controlled by Communist regime in 1975. She moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1992. In America, she took care of her many grandchildren and spent most of her time with family, telling stories and providing for them wherever she could.
She liked planting flowers, and her favorites were burgundy roses. She was a skilled cook, especially in traditional Hue dishes, and we all enjoyed her delicious meals. Her other talent was knitting and crocheting. She loved having guests, and had people visiting constantly throughout the years. The house was always bustling with people, and she was never alone.
We will remember her for her tremendous courage, willpower, devotion, and most of all the love she gave to us. She will be missed, especially for her humor, her life stories, and last but not least her food.
She is survived by 1 brother, 1 sister, 9 children, 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
