Leon Thummel

It is with great sadness that the family of Leon Thummel announce his passing on Saturday, October 25, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Leon was born on the family farm in Seguin, Kansas on May 24, 1940, the eldest of 8 children of Lawrence and Mildred (Huelsman) Thummel.  He is a graduate of Hoxie High School Class of 1958 and a veteran of the US Army.  He attended trade school in Denver and later became a Master Electrician. He worked for decades serving many commercial and industrial clients in Wichita including almost 30 years through his own company, Leon’s Electric.

On April 30, 1966, Leon married the love of his life, Carol Baalman in Grinnell, Kansas.  Together they have three children – Linette Fowler (Bryan), Joyce Stock (Cris), and Eric Thummel (Stephanie).  The family has been blessed with seven grandchildren – Austin and Nathan Fowler, Derek Stock, and Nolan, Luke, Mary, and Jocelyn Thummel.

A lifelong devout Catholic and founding member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. He volunteered in various capacities over his lifetime including on the first SEAS Building Committee and other parish groups as well as the Lords’s Diner and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers Bernard and Mike Thummel, and his sisters Charlotte Wolfe and Jane McDougal.  Leon was proceeded in death by his parents, and his brothers Jerry, Larry, and Jon.

Leon will be remembered for his deep faith, devotion to his family, love of nature, his ability to fix anything, and his stellar card skills.

Visitation and Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025, and Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Friday, October 31, 2025, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 645 North 119th Street West, Wichita, Kansas 67235 with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery, 1640 North Maize Road, Wichita, Kansas 67212.
