Michael “Mike” Prue, age 53, of Wichita, KS, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on March 10, 1972, in Goldsboro, NC to Norman and Kathy-Ann (Clark) Prue, Mike was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to so many.
He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Wendy (Buresh) Prue; daughter, Gabby (Patrick) Schrader of Topeka; son, Nicholas Prue of Pensacola, FL; mother, Kathy-Ann (Clark) Prue of Bel Aire; brothers, Norman Prue, Jr. of Ramstein, Germany, Joseph (Stephanie) Prue of Colorado Springs, CO, Thomas (Sarah) Prue of Derby; along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Norman Prue; mother-in-law, Madonna Buresh; brother-in-law, Todd Buresh; nephew, Tyler Loomis; and several aunts and uncles.
Mike grew up as a military BRAT living in North Carolina, Maine, Guam, New Jersey, England, Germany and finally Kansas, where he met his God chosen love of his life, Wendy, in 1992, marrying in 1995. They loved each other from “sunrise to sunrise” every day of their marriage. In July 2025, they celebrated 30 years of a most beautiful and blessed marriage.
He fully entered into the Catholic Church on April 15, 1995 prior to their wedding. Mike continued to share and practice his Catholic faith every day since. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of Pastoral Council and School Council, and is a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
Mike worked for nearly 15 years in law enforcement in Andover and Park City, retiring in 2008. He went to work for Kice Industries in Park City for nearly 18 years. He loved his time at Kice, traveling as the Installation Manager and working in the Wichita office as the Fabrication Manager. He made some of the tightest friendships there and had immense respect for the Kice family and the employees. He often said the people he had the pleasure of working with in Fabrication were the “best of the best” employees. In his final months when he was unable to physically be in the shop, he would look forward to brief visits to see everyone.
Mike was a huge music fanatic and was proud to see his wife and children eventually share the enjoyment of music from all genres and decades like he did. He was known to quiz people quite frequently to see if they knew dates, stories, singers, and bands for songs that were sometimes 50+ years old. Mike would say, he was obsessed with useless knowledge of music that benefited no one, but nevertheless, loved learning about the backgrounds of music.
One of Mike’s other passions was to help others, particularly Sunlight Children’s Services in Andover and El Dorado. He dedicated his time and talent to fixing items at the children’s home in Andover or the main office in El Dorado. He volunteered with various fundraisers and was on the Board of Directors for several years. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, Mike humbly asks that donations be made to the Sunlight Children’s Services Capital Campaign in order to help build a central campus to provide resources and facilities that support and protect abused and neglected children and their families. Donations can be made to Sunlight Children’s Services Capital Campaign, 205 E. 12th Ave., El Dorado, KS 67042. This will allow Mike’s loving legacy to continue long after leaving this world and entering his new kingdom.
