Fr. Harry Patrick "Pat" Malone

Fr. Harry Patrick Malone, a priest of the Diocese of Wichita for 56 years, passed away Sunday, December 21. He was 87.

Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 28, 2025; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, December 29, 2025, both at Holy Savior Catholic Church.

He was born on February 16, 1938, to Harold H. and Monica (Flakus) Malone in Wichita. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hal (Kasey), Tim and Mike; and sister, Nancy (Jim) Schaefer.

He is survived by his brother, Don and wife Rosemary; and many nieces and nephews; grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; as well as numerous brother priests, friends, parishioners, and caregivers.

After graduating from Marquette University with a degree in electrical engineering he served in the Navy on board the USS Shangri-La.

He studied at Kenrick–Glennon Divinity School in St. Louis and was ordained a priest on June 7, 1969, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita by Bishop Carroll.

Fr. Malone’s first assignment was as an assistant pastor at Christ the King Parish in Wichita. In the next few years his positions included other assistant pastorates at Our Lady of Lourdes in Pittsburg and St. Teresa in Hutchinson. He also served as an administrator at St. Agnes Parish in Castleton, and as a diocesan missionary in Barquisimieto, Venezuela.

On June 14, 1983, Fr. Malone was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Newton. He later went on to serve as pastor for St. Mary in Derby and spent his final 16 years of active pastoring at Holy Savior in Wichita.

Other positions Fr. Malone held include serving as a chaplain at Wichita’s Wesley Medical Center and VA Hospital, as well as chancery roles as a:

  • Member of the Continuing Education Committee for Clergy;
  • Priest Coordinator for the Catholic Marriage Preparation Program;
  • Moderator of the African American Council;
  • Member of the Presbyteral Council; and
  • Member of the College of Consultors.

He retired from active ministry in June 2008.
