Patricia “Pattie” Claire Bergman, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. In the days leading up to her passing, she was filled with joy after hosting a family gathering with her husband and children – an occasion that brought her great happiness. Pattie was born on April 21, 1943, in Inglewood, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine Craven; son, William Keith Bergman, Jr.; siblings, Mary Godshall, Judy Findlay, Frank Craven, and Dorothy Jones.
Pattie is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William “Bill” Keith Bergman; her children, Barbara (John) Sponsel, Tom Bergman, John (Jessica) Bergman, Dan (Andy) Bergman, and Jeff Bergman; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A few years after marrying, Bill and Pattie began their life of adventure together, moving first to Wichita, Kansas, and later for Bill’s work as a corporate pilot to Owatonna, Minnesota; Muskegon, Michigan; Charlotte, North Carolina; and retirement back in Wichita. Wherever they lived, Pattie made each house a home. Her artistic eye – expressed through her figurines, paintings, and lamps – brought warmth and beauty to every place they settled. A grandson once asked Bill which airport he liked flying into most. Bill said Charlotte—because that meant he was coming home to Pattie. Pattie beamed and gave him a big hug.
Pattie worked as a bookkeeper and medical transcriptionist, but her greatest devotion was always to her family. She poured her love into her children, ensuring that even in the Midwest they experienced the water she cherished growing up near the ocean. Summers at lakes and swimming pools became treasured memories. She made holidays magical, especially Christmas and Easter, and delighted in planning family gatherings. No celebration was complete without one of her games, designed to bring everyone together in laughter and fun.
She also found joy in her friendships – sharing meals, praying with her rosary group, and staying active with her YMCA Silver Sneakers ladies.
Rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Monday, April 27, 2026. Both will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Autism Society – The Heartland, P.O. Box 4455, Olathe, Kansas 66063 (in honor of her grandson Matt Bergman).
Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary – West Chapel.
