Roy Ferrell, 79, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the memories of a life well lived. He will be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his work, family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church (1750 N. Tyler) on Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m.

Roy was born on June 11, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, where he spent most of his life. He attended Longfellow Elementary School and Hamilton Junior High before graduating from South High School in 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wichita State University in 1970 and later returned to the university to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1983.

Roy began his career while still in high school, working at the downtown F.W. Woolworth store in Wichita. After college, he entered the company’s management training program, serving in stores in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas. In 1976, he returned to Wichita and later joined Coats and Clark Corporation as a sales representative.

Determined to pursue a career in accounting, Roy returned to Wichita State University and, upon graduation, joined the Kansas Department of Revenue in 1983 as an outside auditor. For more than 25 years, he traveled throughout the United States auditing businesses and ensuring compliance with Kansas state tax laws before retiring in December 2009.

Roy was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and quiet, dependable nature. He valued education, lifelong friendships, and the satisfaction of serving the public with honesty and professionalism.

In accordance with his wishes, Roy will be cremated, and his ashes will be interred at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita beside his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, 3450 N. Rock Road #503 Wichita, KS 67226.

Roy’s life was defined by perseverance, service, and kindness. He leaves behind many friends, relatives, and colleagues who will cherish his memory and the example he set through a life of integrity and dedication. Roy is survived by his nephew, Wade Ferrell (Jill) and many relatives. Roy was preceded in death by his brother Ken, and their parents.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
