Randy Ray Siroky

A life rooted in family, service and the game he loved.

Randy Ray Siroky, 73, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026.

Born October 24, 1952, Randy grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita South High School in 1971. From an early age, he was active in baseball, basketball, and gymnastics, and he competed in high school debate—at one point even considering law school. As an adult, however, it was golf that became both a passion and a defining part of his life.

More than any position he held or course he cared for, Randy’s life was defined by family. He married Melissa Siroky on March 4, 1978, and they were married for 20 years. Together they welcomed Eric Glenn Siroky, Jennifer Megan Schepis and Christopher Ryan Siroky. Becoming a father began the family story that would remain at the center of Randy’s life, and he shared himself with his children in the most natural way he knew: by bringing them along.

Some of Eric, Jenny and Chris’ most lasting memories were formed at MacDonald Golf Course. Randy took them sledding there in the winter and had golf clubs cut down to fit them when they were young; in time, all three developed a love for the game. He also taught them one of his cardinal rules very early: always fix your divot. Among Eric and Jenny’s most enduring childhood memories is tugging on grown golfers’ trousers to remind them to “fix your divot.” The memory captures both Randy’s devotion to the course and the earnest way his children absorbed what mattered to him.

Life with Randy also meant understanding that the golf course was never far from his thoughts. Family vacations sometimes became Wichita “staycations” because he did not want to be too far away if the course needed him. Yet even in those choices, his children were part of his world rather than outside it. They saw his dedication firsthand and learned from his example about responsibility, pride in one’s work and showing up for the people and places entrusted to your care.

Randy married Jeanie Heriford Siroky on November 6, 2004, beginning a marriage that lasted until her passing earlier in 2026. Their marriage brought together Randy’s children and Jeanie’s children, Heather Heriford and Nathan Heriford, creating a blended family that became an important and enduring part of his life. For more than two decades, Randy and Jeanie shared the ordinary joys and traditions that make a life together. They savored their casino trips, building lasting memories together. As longtime members of Wichita’s Candle Club, they enjoyed many evenings there side by side, surrounded by friendship and community. They also shared a mutual passion for cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners. Jeanie shared in the family life, relationships and memories that filled Randy’s years beyond the golf course, and the long marriage they built together remained a deeply meaningful chapter in his life.

As his family grew, so did Randy’s pride. He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up and rarely missed an opportunity to attend a soccer or baseball game to cheer them on. He showed his love in a distinctly Randy way—by checking on his family constantly, whether they thought they needed checking on or not. Those steady check-ins became one of the familiar ways he expressed his care. His nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren extended the family story that began when he became a father.

Randy began working in golf course maintenance in 1974 after being introduced to the profession by his roommate and best friend, John Wright. He worked at Clapp Golf Course before beginning what would become a long career at MacDonald Golf Course, where he remained until his retirement in 2008. In 1985, Randy became MacDonald’s Golf Course Superintendent, a role in which his hard work, dedication and pride in the course were evident to generations of Wichita golfers. He served as president of the Kansas Golf Course Superintendents Association and oversaw MacDonald’s major renovation in 1996. The beauty and condition of MacDonald were a tremendous source of pride for Randy, and his family hopes he will be remembered for helping make it one of the region’s finest courses throughout his tenure.

Randy’s care for others was visible well beyond his work. When his children were growing up, elderly neighbors lived on both sides of the family, and Randy routinely mowed their lawns and shoveled their snow. His children saw that helping was not something he merely talked about; it was something he quietly did. He spent many years supporting the Wichita High School Southeast Football Booster Club, including organizing its annual golf tournament for a decade. He was hardworking, dedicated and a natural storyteller, and he was known for repeating that someone—or something—was “practically perfect, like Mary Poppins.”

His interests stretched beyond golf. Randy was a devoted fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, Atlanta Braves and Miami Dolphins. The Beatles were his all-time favorite band, although later in life he developed an appreciation for numerous country artists. He enjoyed lake trips, Colorado and, in later years, casino trips. He loved a good meal and had developed a knack for cooking.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Siroky and Margorie Herwig; his sister-in-law, Peggy Siroky; and his wife, Jeanie Heriford Siroky.

He is survived by his brothers, Jan Siroky (Diane) and Barry “Bump” Siroky; his children, Eric Glenn Siroky, Jennifer Megan Schepis and her husband, Joel Schepis, and Christopher Ryan Siroky and his wife, Jenny Carduff-Siroky; his stepchildren, Heather Heriford and Nathan Heriford and his wife, Rachael; as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Randy also shared a special lifelong bond with his Colorado family, Don and Dee Lightenberger and their children, Kerry and Bruce, whom he considered a second family.

Randy lived by a simple idea that suited him perfectly: love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life. He found that love at the golf course, but his greatest legacy can be found in the family he encouraged, the people he helped and the course he spent so many years making beautiful.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
