Francis Lee Strong, age 95, was born on May 24, 1931, in St. Joseph, Missouri. On August 27, Francis passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the warmth and love of family.

Francis lived a life filled with adventure, kindness, and unwavering devotion. After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1949, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Panama, before returning home for the birth of his first daughter.

In 1951, Francis married his soulmate, Gloria Schenecker. Together, they celebrated 75 remarkable years of marriage—a testament to their enduring love. Their journey was rich with travel and discovery, from cruises across the globe to visits in Hawaii, Alaska, and beyond. Even the unexpected, like their experience aboard the MS Sea Diamond, became cherished stories.

Francis built a successful career at AT&T, retiring in 1984, then enjoyed another 20 years in real estate. His work ethic and dedication were matched only by his commitment to family, as they moved together through Topeka, Abilene, Goodland, and finally Wichita, where they made their home since 1961.

He found joy in simple pleasures—welcoming friends and family to the Lakehouse at Table Rock, fishing (with a smile, whether or not he caught anything), and nurturing his garden. Francis’s legendary organization and immaculate garage reflected his thoughtful nature and attention to detail.

Francis’s life was enriched by the love and support of many. He was especially grateful for his nephews, whose regular calls and spirited conversations brought laughter and connection. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his amazing care team—Mel, Lila, Alex, Robert, Kayla, Julie, and Eva—whose compassion made all the difference.

Francis is preceded in death by his parents, Francis E. Strong and Agnus Strong; brother, Jerry; son, David; and son-in-law, John Wylie.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; daughters Debbie Wylie and Deann (Joseph Chang); sister Mary Ellen Owens of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Adam, Aarika, Lani, and Andrew; great-grandchildren Noah, Maddie, Josie, Hattie, Malia, and Tyler; and great-great-grandson Hudson.

Francis’s legacy is one of love, adventure, and generosity. His positive outlook, gentle humor, and deep devotion to family and friends will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
