Deering III, Albert Benson “Bert,” 78, was born July 3, 1933 in Boone, Iowa to Albert B. Deering Jr. and Mildred (Albright) Deering. He died Sunday June 17, 2012. He was delivered into this world by his grandfather, Dr. Albert B. Deering. His childhood years were spent in Boone and he attended Boone schools, Marion (Ala) Military Institute and Kansas University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. While serving in the Army he was assigned to Los Alamos, N.M. and Washington, D.C. where he assisted in the development and firing of the first Nike guided missile. In 1958 he met the love and joy of his life, Jan Shoff, in Wichita. They were married in 1959. Berts livelihood included sales and marketing positions for institutional food and industrial equipment companies. He retired in 1998. Bert is a member of the Shrine and Consistory. He was a volunteer for many years for his church, Ronald McDonald House and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. He cherished his family and his friends and he enjoyed jazz, collecting Native American Indian Artifacts, and foreign and domestic travel. His wife, Jan survives him as well as his beloved children: Eric Deering, Kansas City, MO, Emilie Deering Hartwig (Brian), Nixa, MO, grandchildren Jordan Hohl, Springfield, MO, Ashley Hartwig, Kami Hartwig Cardwell (Billy) and great-grandchildren Kaden, Logen and Bennett Cardwell of Ozark, MO. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Sabus, of Algona, IA, two nieces and a nephew. Bert was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Jean and Albert B. Deering, and maternal grandparents Elizabeth and Lewis Albright. Memorial Service, 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 21, 2012 at University Congregational Church, followed by a reception at Larksfield Place.
