Diane L. (Rowell) Wierwille

April 17, 1958 ~ January 6, 2019
Diane L. (Rowell) Wierwille
60, of Richmond Hill, GA, took her final flight to heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ January 6, 2019, while in the care of VCSF Harry Hynes Hospice. Memorial service, 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West Chapel in Wichita, KS. Diane was born and raised in Wichita with ten siblings, attending public schools and making numerous long-time friendships. She married in 1992 to Rick Wierwille, and together they had their beloved children, Derek and Amy. To say Diane was dedicated to her children, family and friends does not come close to describing her life. Diane was a caregiver in the biggest way you could imagine. From driving her kids literally thousands of miles to doctor appointments and school events, to making her husband’s lunch (“every dang day”), to yard work and managing the family finances, it was Diane’s nature to focus on others instead of herself. Even in her last days she insisted on caring for those trying to care for her, putting a pillow on her lap for her sister to rest her head so she could stroke her hair and softly speak words of peace and comfort. Diane lit up a room with her smile and mischievous laugh. She was the first to help anyone in need or to take charge of bringing the family together during special occasions and holidays. As much as Diane cared for others, she loved orneriness. From skinny dipping in the YMCA pool, to Chinese fire drills with strangers, to an employee embezzlement hoax, Diane loved to organize, create and carry out mischief. Right up to her last days, when she huddled with her friends in the hospice room and asked, “Ok guys, what’s something rebellious we can do before I go?” Diane made her mark on this world by making a mark on each of us. It’s hard to understand why God took the person we need the most in our lives. It will be hard to carry on without her. When we wonder what to do, we should remember the example she showed us: focus on others instead of ourselves and make time for a little well- planned orneriness. Preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Jack and Jacquelyn Rowell; mother, Patricia Kaul; sister, Judy Kulick. Survivors: husband, Eric “Rick”; daughter, Amy Wierwille of Richmond Hill, GA; son, Derek Wierwille of Augusta, KS; brothers, Frank (Susan) Rowell of Wichita, KS; John Rowell of Salina, KS; Richard (Connie) Rowell of Fort Morgan, CO; Chad (Nancy) Rowell of McPherson, KS; Patrick Barber of Hutchinson, KS; sisters Kelly (Eric) Happel of Andover, KS; Sherry (Bary) Martin of Salina, KS; Kathy (Brian) Jackson of Wichita, KS; 21 nieces & nephews, 21 great nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial has been established with Shriners Hospitals.
