Don Urban

October 28, 1948 ~ July 16, 2024
Don Urban, 75, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born in Ashland, Kansas, he was the son of Victor and Mary (Preisner) Urban.
After graduating from Ashland High School in 1966, Don attended a radio repair program in Wichita, Kansas. Don enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Army Security Agency. From 1969 -1970 he served in Vietnam as a radio repairman. After being honorably discharged as a Specialist 5, he attended Wichita Drafting School. In January of 1974, Don married Janice Smith. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary having lived in Wichita during those years. Working as a draftsman, Don retired from Boeing after 25 years. He was active in the Young Hunter’s Safety Program. His hobbies included woodworking and operating Ham Radios. In previous years, he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Don is preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his wife, Janice Urban; son, Jess (Megan) Urban of Marysville, KS; daughter, Leslie (Adam) Rathert of Nortonville, KS; grandchildren, Beau, Micaiah, Briggs, Boston, and Wrigley Urban, Jannel and Avery Rathert; sisters, Mary Ann (Steven) Severin of Derby, KS, Carol (Roy) Bliss of Wichita, KS; brother, James (Patricia) Urban of Salina, KS; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202 and Young Hunters Safety.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, July 22, 2024, Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, both at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Graveside Service will follow at 3:30 pm at Sunset Cemetery, Cullison, KS.
I worked with Don back on the 757. He was very friendly, always talking about his family. He ttold of his son working for the railroad and how proud he was of him.
Rest in piece Don.

A kindred spirit and best friend, with such a lovely family. Truly he will be missed.
