Donald Dean Crowell

Donald Dean Crowell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the age of 84. He had a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Don was born in Great Bend, Kansas on August 6, 1937. He grew up in the small town of Olmitz, Kansas. He received his Master of Psychology and Education from Emporia State University and later an administrative degree from Wichita State University. He served as President of the Unified School Administrators. As an educator he was a teacher, coach, counselor, and a beloved Principal. He obtained his Real Estate license in 1968 and later became certified as a Real Estate Appraiser. He opened his own business, Crowell Appraisal Services, and worked until his retirement in 2016. He was a mentor to many teaching and guiding others in the real estate business. Don and his wife, Cathy were married in 1985, together they have two children, Amy and Jacob and five grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with the children and grandchildren and loved watching them compete in sporting events. Don was a very fun-loving guy who loved to laugh and loved his family. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, watching Notre Dame and K-State play football, and the Dodgers play baseball. He was a master of sports trivia. Don was a member of NewSpring Church. He loved attending services each week. We rejoice that he is at home with the Lord. Don is preceded in death by his father, James Crowell; mother, Caroline Crowell. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Crowell of Wichita; daughter, Amy (Henry) Hickman of Harrison, AR; son, Jacob (Chelsea) Theno of Ladera Ranch, CA; five grandchildren, Hank Hickman, Eli (Hanna) Hickman, Tenley Theno, Emmerson Theno, and Grey Theno; cousin, JoAnn (Bob) Hetrick of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and Lexi, faithful Golden Retriever. The family would like to thank Comfort Care Homes (Founder’s Crest) and Serenity Hospice for their loving care of Don. Memorials have been established with: Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc., P.O.
