Dorothy G. Helsel

Dorothy Nadine (Gillies) Helsel, died Thursday, April 5, 2018. She was 93. Dorothy was born on April 19, 1924, to Thomas and Lovey Gillies in Wilson County, Kansas, one of eight children. She worked as a telex operator at Camp Hale in Colorado during WWII and took classes at WSU. Dorothy was a loving mother known for her gentle and gracious personality. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Robert C. Helsel; and daughter, Janet Helsel. She is survived by her son, Michael Helsel; daughter, Peggy Santoro; and grandchildren, Ben Farrell, Anna Santoro and Sam Santoro. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 13 at Wichita Park Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
