Dorothy Jane Dottie Reed

April 4, 1916 ~ March 26, 2005
Reed, Dorothy Jane “Dottie”, 88, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005 in her home at Chaucer Estates. Services will be at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Dottie was born in Wichita, KS on April 4, 1916, and despite traveling all over the world, she always called Wichita home. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Kansas and was an active member of the Republican Party and the Junior League of Wichita. Dottie was a passionate Republican, who enjoyed meeting President George H. W. Bush, Senator Bob Dole and Many other politicians. She loved flowers, birds, weekly luncheons and meetings with friends, and watching the Jayhawks play basketball. Dottie was a refined woman of great sophistication who touched the lives of those lucky enough to know her with her spirit, her sense of humor and her generous heart. She was a patient and supportive mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother and a dear friend. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray T. Reed, Jr. and her daughter, Carol Mee. She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian and Shannon, her great-grandchildren, Alec and Cameron and her beloved caregiver, Dee, to whom she was like a second mother. We loved her more than we could ever say, and will miss her terribly. A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Marker, Wichita, KS, 67202.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
Dear Shannon and Family, I enjoyed getting to know Dottie and working with her. She was a real lady. She was very smart and dear, just so frustrated by her physical limitations. She worked so hard to overcome them. Shannon, I know that you and your brother helped her emotionally. She loved you both very much. Please give Dee my best regards, too. She was so wonderful for Dottie.
I knew Dottie thru Carol as I was a childhood friend. I would spend the night with Carol when they lived on Belmont, and we had such a great time laughing and playing with the Schnauser dog they had Schnitzel. Dottie made really good cookies and always made me feel right at home. I would also see her when she moved to Eastborough as she lived on the street behind my Mom and Dads house on Hampton Rd.. Carol and I also shared horses as a hobby which Dottie and my Mom suported for their girls. My mom is still living at 90 years old. Dottie was really a nice mother to all of Carols friends.
