Eleanor Mae Carter

Carter, Eleanor Mae (Blevins), 88, homemaker, died Monday, December 2, 2013. Eleanor will always be remembered for her life of love and service. She was devoted to the love of her life, Noble, and the 58 years they journeyed through life together prior to his passing in 1999. Meeting and courting at the Riverside Boathouse and writing to each other faithfully through World War II, they married in 1945 and established their home in Riverside, remaining there for the rest of their lives. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved her family dearly and enriched all our lives with her compassion, wisdom and keen memory of family history and tradition. She committed herself to a life of service through her church and beloved United Methodist Women. Whether cooking for church activities, sewing for mission projects, or serving meals to the homeless, she was always happiest when serving others. She acquired lots of additional “sons and daughters” throughout her life, as well, whose lives and families she felt constantly blessed by. Now freed from her frail body, we know she is eternally blessed to be reunited with Dad and Nancy. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alta Blevins, husband, Noble Carter, and their daughter, Nancy Kay Carter. She is survived by her son, Noble Kent Carter (Becky), of Wichita; grandchildren, Noble Kristian (Nicole), and Kelly (Tim); great-grandchildren, Noble Kaden, Noah, Aryana, and Tyler; and Kathy Carter, mother of Kristian and Kelly. Memorial service 11:00 am Monday, December 9, 2013 at Woodland United Methodist Church, and visitation with family members the hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Woodland United Methodist Church, 1100 West 15th St. N., Wichita, Kansas, 67203. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
