Eric J. Charters, 75, retired law enforcement and 911 and security dispatcher, passed away on May 2, 2024, after a courageous 6 year battle with cancer. Eric was born on June 19, 1948, to Harry and Lura Charters in Wichita, KS. He grew up in Wichita and graduated from East High School. He enjoyed a career in law enforcement and worked for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, was a 911 dispatcher, and security dispatcher for Boeing and Spirit before retiring in 2008. Eric loved family, his Catholic faith, completing home improvement projects, and loved technology and had a knack for rebuilding and fixing computers. Eric married Vicky Bieker, the love of his life in 1982. For 41 years, Eric shared an unbreakable bond with his beloved wife, a testament to their enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they built a family foundation that was strong, nurturing, and full of joy. His three children, the pride of his life, are a living legacy to his spirit and integrity. He absolutely adored being a ‘Papa’ and his grandchildren thought the world of him. He loved constantly spoiling his grandchildren with tickles, ice cream, and love. Eric dedicated his life to ensuring the safety of others, first as a member of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office, then as a compassionate 911 and Boeing security dispatcher, where his calm voice was often the beacon of hope in times of distress. His unwavering commitment to the well-being of his community as well as quick thinking and problem-solving skills demonstrate his generous spirit. As we bid farewell to Eric, we hold tight to the cherished memories and the important lessons he imparted. His gentle demeanor, his reassuring presence, and his unwavering moral compass will continue to guide us. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday May 5, 2024, and funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday May 6, 2024, both at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
