I was saddened to learn of Gary’s passing – so sudden and unexpected! He was a good kid who grew into a fine man. We were classmates at MHS.
Dear Family of Gary Richards – My name is Jerome Niebaum and I grew up with Gary in Corbin, Kansas. Though he was a year older, Gary was a good friend and he taught me how to play pool on a snooker table the family had in the basement in Corbin. Porter and Ella were always welcoming to me in their home. I remember Gary introducing me to french fries in a can, which I thought were the most wonderful treat ever. Lonn may remember me, but I was just a little kid to him at the time. My wife, Judy, still remembers a stuffed turquoise poodle that Gary won for her when the three of us were together at the Sumner County Fair sometime after Gary had moved to Mulvane. Gary and I were both in the computing field. In 2004 I retired as Assistant Vice Provost for Information Services at the University of Kansas. Gary and I had only one opportunity to meet as adults, but it was a great reunion. This week I have been creating a Web site about Corbin that includes a picture of Corbin school kids when Gary was in 5th grade. I believe Lonn is in the picture as well, but I’m uncertain. Gary was in my thoughts just this week, not knowing that he had died. If you have an interest, I can direct you to the Web site. It’s not quite ready for broad viewing yet. Judy and I offer our sincere sympathy to you in Gary’s passing. Judy & Jerome Niebaum 1573 N. 962 Rd. Lawrence, KS 66046
