H. E. Gene Jones

Jones, H. E. “Gene”, Principal Attorney with Hershberger, Patterson, Jones and Roth, former Assistant City Attorney, died Sunday, February 19, 2006. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, February 21 and the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 22, both at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Gene was born on February 4, 1924 in Everest, Kansas to Maryzita (Cahill) Jones and Richard H. Jones, the fifth of six children. Gene was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a veteran of World War II. He attended Wichita University. Gene was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and graduated from the University of Kansas, School of Law in 1949. He served as past President of the Wichita Bar Association and was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a trustee of the Kansas Bar Foundation, a past President of the Downtown Wichita Rotary Club, a former Rotary District 5690 Governor and member of the Wichita Country Club. Gene is survived by his wife, Anne Ashley Jones and a brother, Jerome E. Jones. He is also survived by five children: Sarah Jervis (David), Ashley Jones (Kandace), Emily Jones (Terry), Cahill Jones (Susie) and Melissa Smith (Stan) as well as his grandchildren, Johnny and Anne Ziegelmeyer, Lena, Claudia and Gracia Jones, Mike, Chris and Steven Jones, Dylan, Hannah and Parker Jones, Christina, Lindsay and Samuel Smith. Memorials have been established with the Blessed Sacrament Campaign Fund, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, KS, 67208 and Wichita Downtown Rotary Club, 106 W. Douglas, S-909, Wichita, KS, 67202-3308. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family of ‘Gene’ Jones. I shall always remember him as a premier attorney who strongly believed in doing things the right way, and doing them well. He truly lived his life in a manner that earned the respect of all who knew him, and set an example to follow. May he rest in peace.
