Henry J. “Hank” Rasmussen, 97, born February 28, 1919, died Saturday, August 8, 2015. Hank was an entrepreneur who started, managed and sold several businesses, his last being coin-operated laundry machines in apartment complexes, with his initial start coming from Jack DeBoer at Eastborough Arms in Wichita. Hank was a member of Wichita West Lions Club for 59 years, and was presented the Ambassador of Good Will Award by Lions International in recognition of his outstanding achievements in service to humanity. Hank created and endowed the Lions Vision Care Fund to provide eyeglasses for indigent people in Wichita and Sedgwick County through the Medical Service Bureau, 1530 S. Oliver, S-130 in Wichita. February 12, 2012, was declared Hank Rasmussen day in Wichita by Mayor Carl Brewer in recognition of Hanks “providing an excellent example of responsible citizenship for future generations through his loyalty and dedication to his community.” Hank served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and recently participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to view all memorials. Hank is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Naomi Jean (Miller) Rasmussen, aka Peno, and his parents, Johan and Helga Rasmussen. He is survived by 37 nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Service, 10 a.m., Saturday, August 22, Downing Lahey West, 10515 W. Maple with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Lions Vision Care Fund, c/o The Wichita Community Foundation, 301 N. Main, S-100, Wichita, KS 67202.
