Janet Louise (Earhart) Gustin
Janet was born Jan. 21, 1939 to Lawrence and Lillie Earhart. She was born on the family farm near Troy, Ohio and was the third of four siblings. Janet was a busy, young vibrant woman who worked hard on the farm, and loved playing the cornet in her high school marching band. She was active in 4-H club showing Angus Beef cattle. It was at a 4-H dance where she met the love of her life Philip Gustin. He was a student at The Ohio State University, returned home for summer vacation.
Janet was crowned Ohio State Fair Queen in 1956. She danced with the Four Preps and was kissed on the cheek by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Janet and Philip married on June 14, 1958. Her hearts desire was to be a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was an absolute success according to her family. Upon graduation in 1961, Philip entered the Army Veterinary Corps as a first lieutenant, and thus started their world travels.
Janet became a mother of two children: Kathy Gustin Jackson, (Wichita) and Philip Scott Gustin, (New Jersey) who joined in the world travels of military life.
The familys second tour of duty was in Yokohama Japan from 1964-1967. They lived all over the USA, and in 1978 were stationed in Stuttgart Germany. They toured all over Europe in those three years. Philip retired in 1985 and they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. Janet got very ill while there, and Philip became her full time caregiver. It was at this point in their lives they decided to live near Kathy and moved to Wichita, KS and have been Wichitans ever since.
Janet had a servants heart for the Lord and served in numerous capacities in Kingdom-work over her years. She was a Precept Ministries Bible study teacher, Sunday school teacher, Jr. High School youth leader (With Phil), etc. In their most recent years, Janet and Philip mentored many engaged and married couples. Together, they touched the lives and hearts of many couples. In recent years Janet also mentored and discipled several ladies.
Janet was a devoted grandmother to grandson Jacob Jackson and was able to participate in his lifes activities here in Wichita. She was also the grandmother to three grandchildren who reside in New Jersey; Joshua, Gigi and Josiah Gustin. She and Philip visited them in June of this year when Josiah, the youngest of the three, graduated from High School. She was extremely proud of each of her grandchildren and was a prayer warrior for her entire family.
Janet was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She genuinely cared about every person she met. She was known for her infectious smile and laugh that will never be forgotten. She was avid about exercise and having a healthy lifestyle in her mind, body and spirit. She loved to read and loved to do research to improve her knowledge of all areas in her life.
She is survived by her husband Philip, children Kathy and Scott, and his wife Patricia; Grandchildren Jacob Jackson, and Joshua, Gloria, and Josiah Gustin; Sister Lois Jean Kincaid, brother Lawrence Earhart, and sister Lorraine Stoops.
Janet is remembered as a Godly woman who loved the Lord Jesus, and all her family and friends with all of her heart.
Visitation time will be Friday, Aug. 11th, 9:30-10:30am followed by the Memorial Service at 10:30am, both at Central Christian Church. 2929 N. Rock Rd. Wichita KS. 67226.
The cemetery service will be at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas at 2:00pm.
