Janis Kay Fenwick

June 23, 1942 ~ February 3, 2025
Janis Kay Fenwick passed Monday, February 3, 2025 in her home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
Jan is survived by her 3 sons, Matt (Sherree Yeoman) Fenwick of Belle Plaine, KS, Jason Fenwick of Andover, and Jonathan (Kristi) Fenwick, of Wichita. She has 6 grandchildren, Payton, Jonathan, Camden, Connor, Kennedy and Nolan. Jan developed friends all over the country as she lived in multiple areas including Oklahoma, Wyoming, Washington St, Tennessee, Connecticut, Colorado and of course Kansas.
Jan Falkingham was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1942. Her father’s business took her to Wyoming, where she met Alan Fenwick in 1963. They were married in 1965 and she became a mother in 1967.
Jan will be remembered most as an amazing and supportive mother to 3 active boys, making sure they all made it to their activities and games. She was always known for being especially loud cheering for her sons, with signature cheers for each player on the team. Jan was very active in the Derby, KS community as her boys were growing up. She knew all the teachers at each school, was the president of PACT (Parents and Community Together), and left the door open to hundreds of friends ensuring The Fenwick House was the place to be. Jan always made sure her family was fed with a home cooked meal each day, and many times the dinner table included unexpected friends which she joyfully welcomed. She fostered countless friendships every place she lived, friendships she still has to this day.
In the mid 1990’s Jan went from a mom to 3 boys, to being a sorority house mom at two different universities. She held the position of House Mom for 15 years, where she undoubtedly made an impact on several young women’s lives.
Jan became Gramma Jan in 1999, and for the last 25+ years that’s been her favorite title. She had a unique and special relationship with each of her grandchildren, and was active and supportive as much as she could be. She has so many special memories with all her family members and friends that will last a lifetime.
I was a Pi Phi at CU Boulder from 2002-2006….
Mom Fenwick was our absolute favorite!!! She was always there if we needed her. She was the best Jan Brady for our Rush decades dance, always up for a good time!! She will be remembered with love and admiration. We also loved that she had a dog named Tipsy 😂🩷! Rest in Peace Mom Fenwick xoxo

I was chef at Pi Phi for 14 years- 12 with Jan as “house mom”. She was great to work with and we always had so much fun hanging out in her little apartment . Everyone loved her and little Tipsy. Jan was a shining light in this world and will be missed .
I’ve known Jan since I was twelve years old, 37 years. She was warm, kind, understanding and loving. She beamed with pride about her children and their children. She was truly a light in a dark world. Love you Mama Fenwick.
Mom Fenwick was a remarkable woman who impacted the women of Delta Delta Delta at Oklahoma State University. I was an adviser for the house at the time and got to spend many hours getting to know her. She had the kindest heart and was such a role model for the girls at a time they are making the right choices. She was always talking and visiting with them and they all respected her as we all did. My prayers to all her sons and their families. She was a gem! God bless her and Delta love.
Mama Fenwick and Tipsy added so much love, laughter, and support to the Boulder Pi Phi house. When you got to sit at “Mom’s Table”, listening to her stories over dinner was a gift in itself. Thank you so much for everything. You are missed! Give tipsy a scratch from the Pi Phis.
I am so sad to hear about Jan! She was a lovely woman who touched all who knew her. We shared the gift of Pi Beta Phi and will always remember her warm laughter and fun stories! Jan was a true Pi Phi angel! She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Penny Moss

Loosing our friend of forty years brings us much sadness even though we know it was her time to go and she was ready. She’s gone but we have so many memories to that will help us when we think of her in the days to come. She was a great friend, full of fun and laughter. She had a dedicated family who brought her so much joy. She was a woman who had exceptional strength that helped her navigate the challenges of life. We loved her and our grateful for the privilege of having her in our lives.
Matt, Jason, and Jonathan, I just called your Mother’s cell to have our annual visit and with the message realized that Jan may have passed away so I googled her and found out that sad news. Jan and I were great friends in Simsbury, CT and were tennis partners. We spent a lot of time together those years that we both lived in SImsbury. We had stayed in touch all these years. She was such a great lady and no one was more fun to be with. She adored all of you and all grandchildren and she kept me up to date on the family news. My deepest sympathy you and your families on the loss of your dear Mother. She spread joy far and wide.
