John was born March 7, 1971 in Wichita, KS, the son of E. Grant Larkin, Jr, and Delores (Dee) Evelyn Larkin. He attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita East High School. John worked with and participated in many activities with the ARC and Starkey Inc of Wichita, which culminated in permanent employment with Johnson Controls for over 20 years until his retirement in 2019.
John could be characterized as the "ultimate sports fan". He attended Wichita State Shocker basketball games for many years as a season ticket holder with his parents. John would always root for any player wearing the #23 on their jersey. This was because of his love for Michael Jordan after competing in tennis at the International Special Olympics in North Carolina. John also closely followed the KSU Wildcats, KU Jayhawks, and Texas Longhorns out of loyalty to his siblings and their spouses.
John is survived by his mother, his brother, E. Grant (Kathy) Larkin III of Lawrence, KS, sisters, Ann (Steve) West of Clay Center, KS, Mary (Patrick) Tynan of Wichita, KS; nephews, Jeff (Meghan) Larkin of Lawrence, KS, Tom (Mallory) Larkin of Lawrence, KS, Brian (Alexandra) Larkin of Stamford, CT, Andy (Kimberly) Larkin of Mesa, AZ, Todd (West) of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Bridgette (Nathan) West-Williams of Lawrence, KS, Maggie West of Topeka, KS, Erin West of Clay Center, KS.

Love and prayers to Aunt Dee and cousins Grant, Ann, and Mary. John was a wonderful, loving cousin, great Shocker fan, and superb example of a dedicated worker. He was a genuine and caring child of God.. an example to us all. Rest in peace, John.
We met John through the Grant Larkin family, we were introduced and we were friends from there on. He would always attend church with his parents, and I would give out communion. He never let a Mass go by that he didn’t wave at me from his pew or the communion line. Even as I was giving communion to others, I told the priest that I will always stop to wave back at John. He made me smile! Blessings to the Larkin family, I will miss John.
Thank you Annette…you were friends for life once John met you! Grant and Kathy

I remember when Mary brought him over to my house to enjoy a KC Chiefs game with me. He made himself comfortable right away eating popcorn and enjoying a variety of snacks. John especially like the big screen television and laughing at us yelling during the game. He felt very relaxed with me and being in my home. God bless you and your family.
John – You were such a good, fun, and loving
brother-in-law. You enjoyed the finer things in life like tasty foods, sports, music, scenic sites, and
lovable family pets. You will always be my all-time
favorite Olympian. Rest in peace. We miss you.
Dee, we will always remember the first time we met John. You & Grant brought him to our home for a visit, after our daughter Molly was born. John was adorable.
Your family gave us hope for the future.
John grew into an incredible young man.
Our sincere condolences to you and your family.
