Burkholder, Karin R. (Vennemann), 66, died Saturday August 11, 2007, after a long and cruel battle with Parkinson disease. Memorial service 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 14, at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. She was born October 12, 1940, to Herta and Bernd Vennemann in Berlin, Germany. As a young woman in Berlin she worked as a cartoon artist but came to the U.S. in December, 1959, as the bride of George Burkholder and soon started a family. The twins, Mike and Ron, were born in 1960 and were followed by Diana in 1962. The young family traveled extensively until 1967 when they settled in Wichita. Karin had many interests but especially enjoyed her antique business, gardening, and loved to cook for her family and friends who in turn loved to eat her German specialties. In Heaven she joins her late husband, George, and daughter, Diana Rowell, and awaits her sons Ron (Magna) and Mike (Lois) and their children, Seth and Kimberly, brother, Ralph Vennemann, and sister, Ingrid, along with a legion of friends. The family requests that her memory be honored through a memorial in her name to Faith Home Health Hospice, LLC, 7804 E. Funston, S-203, Wichita, KS, 67207.

  1. This message is for Karin’s two sons Mike and Ron. In all my years on this earth I have never seen such two devoted sons. Your mother certainly taught you both well. To have seen such compassion from both of you even when your mother was in the Assisted Living here at Lakepoint was such a blessing to me. I commend both of you for being such compasionatte and loving sons and I do hope that many other mothers would have sons like both of you. May you both be comforted by the presence of those who love and support you, by faith in the eternal Loving One and by the memories of what you hold most dear. May you both be strenghtened in your daily comings and goings, in your tenative new beginnings and in your unfolding new memories. It was a honor to have been a part of your mothers care and I will miss her. In Christ, Annie Lovette
