LaVerna Marilyn Huffman

Huffman, LaVerna Marilyn (Schultz), 87, died Saturday, February 21, 2015. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel. LaVerna was born February 17, 1928 in McPherson, KS, the daughter of W.P. and Florence Schultz. She married Cliff Schumacher in 1951 in Wichita and D.F. Huffman of Lyons in 1976. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught for 41 years. After attending East High in Wichita and Monticello Womens College in Alton, Illinois, she graduated from Kansas State University where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. LaVerna received her MMA degree from Fort Hays State University in 1982 in Early Childhood Development and taught in Great Bend and Chase, KS. Her community service included volunteering with the Red Cross, Barton County Republican Party, P.E.O., American Heart Association and the Great Bend Cemetery Memorial Rose Garden. Preceded in death by her husband, D.F. Huffman; parents, W.P. and Florence Schultz, brother, W.P. Schultz, Jr.; step-daughter Debra Laessig. Survived by her daughters, Lisa Bruns (Darrell) of Bemidji, MN, and Karla Schumacher of Wichita, KS; sister, Guelda M. Chism of Wichita, KS; grandsons, Kolby Bruns of Bozeman, MT, Parker Bruns of Bemidji, MN; step-children, Vickie (Gary) Folck of Lyons, KS, David Huffman (Debbie) of Broken Arrow, OK; step-grandsons, Dustin Huffman and Andrew Huffman (Nicole); nieces and nephews.
