Linda Anne Batchelder, 74, of Bel Aire, Kansas passed away on February 14, 2025.
Linda was born in Garden City, Kansas on November 16, 1950 to Norbert and Barbara Linenberger. She has one brother, Michael Linenberger and two sisters, Mary Jo Sherrill and Janet Kruleski. Linda was married on April 24, 1971 and had a daughter, Annette Zook, and son, Shane Batchelder. In 2017, Linda moved from Garden City to Bel Aire where she became a resident in the Shepard’s Crossing independent living community at the Catholic Care Center.
Linda spent her life serving others through her profession and her faith. Her nursing career began at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey on a surgical floor. When she returned to Garden City, Kansas, she worked on OB at St. Catherine’s Hospital. After staying home with the children, she went back to work for Dr. Scott Booker at Plaza Medical Center where she worked for 20 years until her retirement in February of 2017. Linda also dedicated her time to helping others through St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Birthright, Stephan’s Ministry, Emmaus House and 4-H in Garden City. Once moving to Shepard’s Crossing, she became involved in classes, card groups and programs sponsored by the community and ultimately became one of the ambassadors welcoming and taking care of others.
Linda is survived by her siblings, children, daughter-in-law - Sara Batchelder, and grandchildren - Trevor and Connor Zook (Annette) and Claire and Emma Batchelder (Shane). She was also very proud of her five godchildren.
Services will be held on March 1, 2025 at St. Elizabeth’s Chapel at the Catholic Care Center. The rosary will begin at 10:00 am followed immediately by the Mass. The family and anyone else wishing to join the inurnment will go to Ascension Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Center of Hope, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or Catholic Care Center.
Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
A sad loss of us all. Linda and I shared birthday meals the eight years here at Shepherds Crossing. Our favorite was at Livingston cafe, eating biscuit and gravy, homemade.
We shared many faith talks together. Also truly enjoyed the bible-study group with Fr. Christopher Martin at The Landing.
Missing a friend but grateful she’s not suffering. Love & peace for your families @ this sad time.
LINDA two years ago was told she had stage 3 cancer. We other residents of Shepherds Crossing lived out those two years with her by saying “We will be happy & let’s play cards” and we did. These last few months, Hospice cared for her @ Long-term Catholic Care Center where she succumbed on Feb. 14th. We will attend her funeral Mass on March 1st . She was a friend to everyone. Because she was in the Ambassador program, we other Ambassadors will wear our vest at the Celebration of Life noon meal in her honor at The Landing of Shepherds Crossing. To the family we say “Amen. She finally got to meet her Jesus.”
Connie Schlatter a resident of Shepherds Crossing who was one of those card players of many, many games trying to make the last years happy.
My deepest sympathy to Linda’s family. She will be greatly missed. Linda had a loving heart and a generous spirit. Prayers for all of you

She was a friend to everyone!
She will be missed by all!
May She rest in peace!
I worked with Linda. She was a wonderful lady and it breaks my heart to hear that she is gone.
Linda was a very special person. We lived close to Bert and Barbara Linenberger and family. They were such a beautiful ❤️ family so I ‘ve known them for many years and Linda was at the Dr’s office before retiring. She will be missed by all who knew her.
