Margaret Pyle Martie McClure

McClure, Margaret Pyle “Martie,” 99, Homemaker, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Martie was born to Eben Pyle and Florence Birkett Pyle on September 24, 1915 in Wichita. She graduated from Wichita High School North in 1933. After graduation, she attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She met Allison Churchill McClure at KU and married him in 1936 at St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita. Martie was active in the Wichita community, serving terms as the President of the Womens Advisory Council of the Institute of Logopedics (Heartspring), President of the Pi Beta Phis Wichita Alum Club (where she became a diamond pin member) and as President of Minneha Elementary Schools PTA, among other things. As well, she lovingly provided her talents as bookkeeper for her husbands drive in movie theater businesses for years. Martie will be remembered as a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend to many. Loving to socialize, she enjoyed dining at WCC, playing cards, golf and vacationing with family and friends in Colorado and Arizona. Known as a gifted wordsmith, she regularly wrote poetry and completed crossword puzzles well into her 90s. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Mary Ruth (Pyle) Breidenthal. She is survived by her children, Janis McClure Cooper of Wichita, and Cathie McClure of Mulvane. Grandchildren, Brian Cooper (Kristi) of Lake Jackson, TX, Aubrey Lewis Haley (Sean), Allison Lewis Hazen (Heath) of Mulvane, KS, and Laurel Lewis Wiedower (Eric) of Memphis, TN, along with 7 great-grandchildren. Memorials have been established with University of Kansas Endowment Fund and St. James Episcopal Church, Wichita. Private Services will be held. Downing Lahey East Mortuary.
