Marlo E. Goering, 91, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, retired CPA and attorney, died Saturday, October 12, 2024. He was born June 5, 1933, in Newton, Kansas to Jonathon J. and Katie Goering, the eleventh of twelve children. Marlo attended Pioneer grade school and graduated from Moundridge High School in 1951. He went to Bethel College for two years, enrolling in pre-medical courses. He then went to Denver, Colorado to fulfill his selective service obligations. Returning to Bethel, he graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Marlo then attended one year of medical school at the University of Kansas, where he met Patricia Ratzlaff. They married at the Goessel Mennonite Church on November 30, 1957. Realizing that he no longer wished to pursue medicine, Marlo enrolled in a graduate accounting program at Wichita University. He earned his CPA and started a career in accounting. He furthered his education, graduating with a Law Degree from Washburn University Law School in 1966. In 1969, his career took him to Wichita, Kansas, where he moved his family, Patricia and daughters, Tamara, Lori and Robin, and built a life. Marlo set up his own law practice in Wichita focusing on tax law. He retired in 2017 at the young age of 84. Marlo started playing duplicate bridge in Wichita and became a Gold Life Master. His love for playing card games started when he was young and continued through life. He made numerous lifelong friends through bridge including a group called the Dirty Dozen. He served as the president for his local bridge unit and was president of a multi-state district. He also taught bridge in the local community and to many relatives at family reunions. Marlo was also active in the West Wichita Optimist Club in the early 70’s in Wichita. During his service, he held positions as president and secretary. Marlo was an avid sports fan, cheering on his favorite sports teams: the Jayhawks, Cardinals and Chiefs. He greatly enjoyed his time with extended family, especially spending time with his granddaughters, Christina and Lauren, and great grandson, Carson. Marlo’s wife Patricia passed away in 2008 and he married Ruby Campbell on May 11, 2012. Marlo and Ruby enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and playing bridge.Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Patricia and his second wife of 10 years, Ruby, and eleven siblings and nine in-laws-Meta Juhnke (William), Elmer Goering (Linda), Mary Ann Preheim (Delbert), Laura Krehbiel (Reuben), Harvey Goering (Viola), Philip Goering (Dolores), Rueben Goering, Emil Goering (Lavina), Marjorie Stucky (Marvin), Donald Goering (Loua), and Clyde Goering. Survived by his daughters, Tamara Goering of Wichita, KS, Lori (Anthony) Jenkins ofWichita, KS, Robin (David) Courtney of Overland Park, KS; granddaughters, Christina Courtney of Kansas City, MO, Lauren Courtney of Parkville, MO; great-grandson, Carson. Ruby’s children: Lori (Henry) Salas, Becky (John) Norris, Patty (John) Myers, Brad (Cheryl) Kiser all of Texas, Debie (Doug) Kvassay, AZ, Susan Lawrence, KS; Brother-in-law Robert (Kim) Ratzlaff, Wichita, KS. Sisters-in-law, Mabel Goering, Felice Goering, of Moundridge, KS and Mary Cross, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 11:00 am at Hope Mennonite Church, 868 North Maize Road, Wichita, Kansas 67212 Memorials have been established with: Hope Mennonite Church Caring Fund and Hope Mennonite Church Memorial Garden Fund. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.
