Mary Lue (Stewart) Winsor, 80, passed away on July 15, 2024. She was born on December 15, 1943, in Dalhart, TX to Anna Lunora and Robert Marion Stewart. She attended Texline, TX schools. Mary Lue is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ruby Ann Johnson; daughter-in-law Carol Joann (Coslett) Winsor; and great grandson, Jeremiah Stukey. Mary Lue married the love of her life June 22, 1959, and started the adventure of life that she loved. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry Winsor Jr.; sons, Henry Winsor III, Danny Winsor (Roxanne), Mike Winsor (Vania); daughter, Lanell Montgomery (Mark); grandchildren, Kristin Winsor, Kimberly Dyke (Brett), Kelly Stukey (Ben), Chelsie Johnson, Trey Winsor, Tyler Winsor, Kalin King (Christian), Kylie Winsor, Abigayle Montgomery, Allyson Montgomery, Lela Winsor, and Zoe Winsor; and 8 great grandchildren.
Mary Lue loved to use her hands and she was a master seamstress. You could truly see a little touch of heaven in every masterpiece she so beautifully created. Her seamstress talents included her famous fancy dresses that all the granddaughters wore, to the most beautiful laced baby blankets. The more lace the better! From fabric to frenzy, Mary Lue could fix it all. She was the definition of “when all else fails, call Mom” and the anchor of the family that she and Henry so perfectly created. She was a problem solver and knew how to handle anything. Life issues to business challenges and everything in between, she always knew what to do.
When she wasn’t helping everyone with everything, she was sharing her home and table with all who would come. She is still known for her famous sandhill plum jelly and would have a jar for all who came into her home. There was never a stranger in her house and no matter what was going on, she would be in her old rocking chair welcoming whoever stopped by. She was known as “Nana” or “Mom” or “Grandma” even to those who might not be her actual children. Her enchiladas were world famous, and she loved to make cherry nut ice cream at the family bar-b-ques.
Mary Lue and Henry began hauling US Mail in 1979 out of Liberal, KS. It was the beginning of a successful business that continues to this day. She worked hard by Henry’s side to create something that has withstood the test of time, through their hard work and determination
When nana wasn’t sewing, cooking, or helping run the business she loved to watch sports. She was an avid Butler Grizzly softball fan, and there weren’t many home games that she and Pa missed.
Out of all these things, Mary Lue loved nothing more than Henry, her loving husband of 65 years. Everything that brought her happiness always included him. She deeply loved their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Mary Lue will truly be missed by all.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, July 19, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Central Community Church Chapel. A memorial has been established with: Victory In The Valley 3755 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218.
To all of Mary Lue’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up with cousins (Kristin, Kim and Kelly) who were pretty much like sisters to me, I saw Mary Lue often and she always treated me just like an extra grandkid! We were always included and welcomed over whether to swim, to help in the barn or for a family bbq. Her cherry nut ice cream was always something I looked forward to! Prayers and love to you all!
Lanell, I’m so sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. I will keep you and all the family in my thoughts and prayers.
Much love, Mary Strunk
