The hallways of the Kansas Masonic Home are a little quieter this morning. The upbeat whistling of Max Darr Johnston, 93, ended Tuesday, September 27, 2016, when Max died peacefully in his sleep watched over by his children. Memorial Service will be held on the sunny side of the street at the Kansas Masonic Home Chapel, at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 3, 2016. A committed volunteer to the community, Max devoted years to organizations including: Boy Scouts, American Diabetes Association - Camp Discovery, Trees for Life, Venture House, Wichita Art Museum, Exploration Place, Sedgwick County Zoo, KMUW, Kansas Organic Producers, and more. Max enjoyed supporting his customers as an All State Insurance agent for over 30 years. During WWII, Max served his country as a member of the Coast Guard. Preceded in death by his wives, Kathryn and Helen. Survived by his children, Valerie Foster of Tacoma, WA, Daphne Johnston of Lawrence, KS, Jeff Johnston of San Francisco, CA, Vincent Johnston of Wichita; grandchildren, Heather & Holly Foster; great-grandchildren, Hadley & Poppy Floyd, Kathryn Foster Kelley, all of Tacoma, WA; step-children, Eric Ferrell, Todd Ferrell, Erin Johnson; step-grandchildren, Tyler Lau, Jane Robey, Kenneth & Peter Ferrell, Alexandra Newman. Memorials have been established with: American Diabetes Association, 608 W. Douglas Ave. S-100, Wichita, KS 67203; Trees for Life, 3006 W.
