Cochener, Nancy May (McArthur), 70, died Sunday, February 2, 2014. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 8, 2014, at University Congregational Church. Nancy was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 14, 1944 to Donald and May Young McArthur. She was a first generation American, but 100% Scottish! In 1949 she took her first trip to Scotland to meet her grandpa, traveling over on the Queen Mary and returning on the Queen Elizabeth two months later. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1962. She then went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education and Language Arts from the University of Kansas in 1966. Upon graduation, she worked as a swimming instructor and waterfront director at a Girl Scouts camp in Nebraska, a teacher in Parsons, Kansas, a substitute teacher in Oceanside, California, and as a community volunteer. She married Bruce Garvey Cochener on July 2, 1967; he precedes her in death. Nancy served her community in many ways. She was a past president of the Clan Arthur Association, USA; High Commissioner to the Scottish Chief for Clan Arthur; Wesley Hospital Womens Board Chair of Candy Stripers; Docent at the Center for the Arts; Young Patrons of the Arts; Designing Women; Music Theater Guild Board; a founder of the Collegiate Association of Parents; a founder for the Collegiate Booster Club; continuing and various roles at Wichita Collegiate School for 35 years; National Committee for Assistance League: Membership, By-Laws, Resource Development; PEO; founding member and founding choir member at University Congregational Church, serving on various boards and the Church Council. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed scuba diving, reading, traveling, compiling family history, and gardening. She is survived by her children, Richard Ray Cochener, Donna Marie Cochener-Metcalfe (Christian Metcalfe), John Thomas Cochener (Nicole Young Cochener), Deanna May Cochener; her brother, Donald McArthur, III (Sandra McArthur); grandchildren, Courtney Cochener Garner (Josh Garner), Olivia Celeste Cochener, Eldon Drake Cochener, Phillip Lugh Arthur Cochener, Liam Willard Cochener Metcalfe, Ewan Oliver Cochener Metcalfe, Jaxon Henry Cochener.
