Jon W. Jones was born January 28, 1941 in Enterprise, KS, the son of Vearl W. and G. Marjorie (Taylor) Jones. He departed this life December 29, 2022 in Wichita, KS. having attained the age of 81 years.He grew up in Enterprise, KS and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1959. He attended and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS in 1963 and then received his Master of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. He was ordained a deacon in the Methodist Church in 1964 and an elder in 1967.While serving as the Student Pastor in Wilson, KS, he met his beloved wife, Patrica Miller, whom he lovingly called Trisha. They were married in Wilson on August 22, 1966. Their home was blessed with the birth of their children, Taylor and Paige.The first part of his ministry, Jon served churches in Kansas, including Wilson, Dorrance, Gypsum, Garden City, Newton, and Great Bend. He then served as the Salina District Superintendent before serving and retiring from East Heights United Methodist Church in Wichita. Following his retirement, he served as the Chaplain at GraceMed Health Clinic in Wichita. He continued to be “Pastor” to the staff of Chisholm Place, his home for the past 3 ½ years.During his ministry, he served on and chaired many conference committees and was a delegate to both the Jurisdictional and General Conferences of the United Methodist Church. He also treasured his time spent as both a counselor and dean at several conference camps.Fondly remembered as a kind and gentle soul with a quiet spirit and deep faith, he was a loving husband, dad and papa always there for his family. He was also a pastor, servant leader, friend, mentor and light in so many lives.He leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his death his son, Taylor Jones and his wife, Tiffany of Manhattan, KS; his daughter, Paige Nelson and her husband Scott of Wichita, KS; his grandchildren, Levi Jones and Hunter Jones; his brothers, Vearl Jones Jr. of Kansas City, KS and Jim Jones of McPherson, KS, their families, many extended family members and countless people whose lives he touched over his years of ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.A service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita, KS. The service will be livestreamed and available to view through the church’s website. Graveside Service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Wilson Cemetery, Wilson, KS. Memorials have been established with: East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67218; GraceMed, 1122 N. Topeka, Wichita, KS 67214.Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
